Our Gospel
The word Gospel means Good News. Now there are many false gospels proclaiming Good News today. Like the prosperity gospel promising wealth and health to its listeners. Or the psychology gospel offering self- esteem and positive thinking to its listeners. Or the religious gospel offering motivational speeches and moral activity to its listeners. However, these false gospels do not address man kinds greatest and most basic problem. The problem of sin and guilt. The truth is there is only one Gospel found in the Bible. The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Why is this exclusive Gospel Good News? Because without the Gospel of Jesus Christ we stand condemned before a holy and just God. We deserve His just wrath because we are guilty sinners before a holy God. We are sinners by nature and sinners by choice. Our sin condemns us before the God of Holy Scripture and we are separated from Him in need of forgiveness. But even in God’s perfect holy wrath there is Good News. Forgiveness is available to remove our sin and give up a right standing with the sovereign God of all creation. God in His gracious mercy and unconditional love made a way for rebel sinners to be redeemed and reconciled to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a sinless life and died on a bloody cross for His people.
Why did Jesus have to die? To pay the penalty that a holy God demands for your mountain of sins. Only the sinless Savior Jesus Christ could satisfy the penalty required by a holy and just God. You could never satisfy a holy and just God with your sincere intentions, good works or religious activity. No. Never. Ever. It required the sinless death of Christ to atone for your ocean of sins.
Jesus is the only way of salvation and He died on a cross for sinners. God then raised Him from the dead, proof that He satisfied God’s payment for sin. Christ alone is sufficient and authoritative to remove your sins and guilt before holy God. Sinners are commanded in Scripture to repent of their sin and to trust in Christ alone for salvation. This free gift of salvation from God is received by faith alone in the person and work of Christ.
After salvation you are declared righteous and forgiven before holy God. As a believer you now live a different life by the power of the Holy Spirit. A changed life marked by the removal of habitual sin and a personal pursuit of holiness. This new life in Christ is always evidenced by purposeful obedience to Scripture.
You are now a child of God eternally secure in Christ all the days of your life. You now have the hope of eternal life after death. You eagerly await the glory of heaven where there is no more sin, pain or death. You will spend eternity with holy God as you worship your Savior forever. What a day this will be for all believers as they see and touch the Lord Jesus Christ. To God alone be all the glory!
